While I am Roman Catholic the world of MDW most certainly is not. The mythology expressed in MDW is a unique combination of myths from all over the world combined with theological paradoxes and philosophical hypotheses and stuff that I'm just making up. This page serves as a glossary of the theology of the MDW world and information concering it will be recorded here as it is revealed in the comic, so as to avoid spoiling, albiet it will be explained in much greater detail. If you see something you believe may be a mistake because it in itself is logically unsound in that it creates a paradox be sure to call me on it. Chances are I did it on purpose, but you'll get brownie points anyway.

The Athereal Plain (occupation organization): The Athereal Plain is similar to a business, a huge corporation specializing in the creation, monitoring, and resolution of mortal life. Inhabited in the Athereal Plain are spirits. The existence of Spirits is necessitated by whatever tasks they are assigned to do. It is through the hard work of spirits in every field which they occupy that life, death, fate, chaos, structure, and justice are properly distributed throughout the world. The major groups in the Athereal Plain are Creation, Death, Logic, Fate, Nature, Love, Luck, and After-life, all spirits are related to one of these functions in some way.

Death (personification/occupation): The Grim Reaper is one of many personification of mortal end-life. He is considered the leading field agent, and is given the most responsibility. He is the first step in a long process to transfer the human soul from the mortal realm to his/her final judgement. His job is to guide the soul from the Mortal Realm to the Athereal Plain in order to be judged.

Nexus (qualites): A Nexus point is a place where both the Mortal Realm and the Athereal Plain intersect. These points share the properties of both plains but slightly greater properties of that realm in which they reside. There is a specific gateway at these points through which one may pass to reach the alternate realm. Nexus points are usually, but not always, in an uninhabited area.

Witchdoctor/Shaman (productivity): Shamanism is a long standing and well-honored position in its own field. In order to become a Shaman one must be born with the inate ability to see and communicate with beings of an Athereal nature. Thus a certain element of Fate is involved. Proper training augments this ability and gives the pupil the tools and knowledge necessary to affect Athereal beings, as well as manipulate Athereal properties to their advantage.

Oracles (ability): Oracles have the ability, whether in-born or otherwise, to glimpse into the expanse of time as if it were a book, but require specific information to use this ability. Throughout time there have only been a few true oracles. Partial Oracles exist in very small numbers consistantly. These partial Oracles, although often confused with true Oracles, have a markedly lesser degree of ability usually only being able to see the past or future or the time of specific persons, places, and things. Some scholars beileve that all mortals have the potential to become partial Oracles if in teh right environment although they are at a loss as to what this environement may be, because those who have been discovered to be true or partial Oracles have nothing consistently in common. Scholars maintain this belief due to the ubiquitosness of deja vu.
